Summerside Feature To Keep Coming
A first-over Keep Coming showed an absence of cover could not keep him from victory during the Sunday afternoon (September 10) feature at Red Shores’ Summerside Raceway.
Gary Chappell got away last with the son of Mystery Chase. Chappell then moved him to the outside past the quarter to challenge his rivals in the Garth Schurman Memorial pace. The field included the heavily favoured Rash B Havior (driven by Marc Campbell), who captured last week's feature with front-end tactics.
Rash B Havior tried more of the same in the $2,100 Sunday feature, as he went to the lead and laid down splits of :28.1, :57.2 and 1:27.1, but it was not enough to stop Keep Coming from his first over advance.
Racing at odds of 13-1, Keep Coming went on to score by a quarter length in 1:56. Rash B Havior finished second, while the pocket-sitting Old Buck (Walter Cheverie) completed the $178.70 triactor. Keep Coming is co-owned and trained by Brian Andrew of Milton Station for co-owner William Andrew of Calgary.
Keep Coming’s victory was one of two wins on the day for Chappell, who also won with Formidable in 2:01.1 for trainer Chris MacKay of French River.
Devon Wallace had a productive day with his own stable as he scored his first-ever training and driving double with WC Kenzie Cookie in 2:03.4 and Private Dancer in 2:03.2. Ken Murphy had driving wins with One Hot Camshaft in 1:58.4 for trainer Frank Hansen of Tyne Valley and Shouldabeenaclown in 2:00 for Edgar Stewart of Ellerslie.
Culpepper remained undefeated on ‘red soil’ for co-owner and trainer Kristina McCourt and young co-owner Braedon McKenna, who has yet to taste anything but victory as a harness racing owner. Jason Hughes recorded the 1:58.4 victory with the grey son of Camluck as one of two wins on the day for the Stratford driver. His other victory was with Relleno Hanover in 2:01.1 for Jansen Sweet of O'Leary.
