Andy Miller celebrated a stakes double in the New York Sires Stakes during Thursday’s card at Vernon Dows, but John MacDonald manufactured a six-win performance to take home bragging rights of his own.
Miller captured the first division with Tito (Muscle Mass-Stonebridge Encore). Owned by Anthony Lombardi, George Golemes, and Louis Willinger, the Erv Miller-trained two-year-old put up fractions of :28.4, 1:00.1 and 1:28.4 before sealing the deal in a career-best clocking of 1:57.1 over Six Pack (Ake Svanstedt) and Ronnie Goldstein (Kim Crawford).

In the second division of the NYSS ($54,500), Miller guided Don (Credit Winner- Angostura) to an easy win. The colt led the field through fractions of :28, :58.4 and 1:27.2 before kicking home in :28.4 to win in 1:56.1 over Rich Uncle (Jimmy Whittemore) and Seven Iron (John MacDonald).
The two-year-old colt is owned by the Andy Miller Stable with Little E LLC and trained by Julie Miller. It was the second win in five starts for Don ($4.20) who also won a leg of the NYSS on July 31 at Monticello Raceway.
Leading driver John MacDonald continued to dominate at the miracle mile with six more wins. MacDonald clicked with Dreas Good Powow ($3.70), Helpisontheway ($13.80), If Not Why Not ($2.80), I Saw Red ($3.90), Stirling Electra ($3.30) and Three Handbags ($5.00).
