Freshman Showdown At Red Shores
The two top juvenile trotters on the east coast of Canada will face off again this Thursday evening (September 7) at Red Shores’ Charlottetown Driving Park.
The 12-dash card will get underway at 6:30 p.m. Buckaroo and Ticked will clash in the $11,150 opening division (Race 1) of the Blair Andrew Memorial. The pair of two-year-olds has been tussling for divisional dominance.
Buckaroo had yet to get the better of Ticked leading into last week’s stakes action. Ticked ended up making a break in their showdown last week, and, in turn, Buckaroo went on to post his first victory against the divisional leader.
This week, Ticked will start from the rail for co-owner and driver Myles Heffernan, trainer Gerald MacDougall and co-owner Jackie Heffernan of Summerville. Buckaroo gained a purse edge over Ticked after a 2:01.4 victory in his Lady Slipper division last week. Buckaroo will start from Post 2 in the Andrew Memorial for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield.
The other $11,150 division (Race 3) features Buddy White as the morning line choice from Post 1 for driver Adam Merner. Buddy White is fresh off of a second-place finish to Buckaroo in his latest outing. Buddy White is trained by Ron Gass for owner Blayne White of Pinette.
The Open Trot will take to the track for Race 10. A field of six top trotters will vie for the lion’s share of the $1,850 purse. Freddie will start from Post 6 with Campbell in the bike. Freddie is heading into the race fresh off of a 1:58.1 victory over the CDP. Holy Molie Maggie, who almost always has a say in the outcome, will start from Post 2 this week with Gilles Barrieau in the bike for trainer Jeff Holmes. Kennel Buddy and David Dowling will start from Post 4 as one of the classifier's top choices. Other entries include Majian Chester (to be driven by Jim Ripley), Dusty Lane Jacob (Merner) and Tyne Valley (Walter Cheverie).
