Grand Slam For ‘Gisele’
A trio of OSS Grassroots divisions for three-year-old trotting fillies went postward Tuesday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with Gisele Treelane, Ticket To Seattle and Bustingattheseams winning their respective assignments.
Gisele Treelane pushed her winning streak to four-in-a-row thanks to an impressive come-from-behind score for driver Jack Moiseyev and trainer Murray Brethour.
Moiseyev got away sixth with the 1-5 favourite while Holiday Promise shot to the top and carved out panels of :28.1, :57 and 1:26.1. Moiseyev got his charge into the flow going into the final turn, and Gisele Treelane used a :29-second closing quarter to rally to the win. She was a half-length better than Stritch, with Holiday Promise settling for third prize.
Bred and owned by Patricia Whittaker Trust of Aspers, PA, the daughter of Daylon Magician-Golden Lake improved this year’s record to 7-0-1 from 13 starts with the victory. She’s stashed away nearly $78,000 to date.
Ticket To Seattle used a similar tactical approach to winning her $18,800 division, but unlike Gisele Treelane – she won in upset fashion for driver James MacDonald and trainer Mark Steacy.
MacDonald got away sixth and held that position through the first three-quarters of the contest. Inner Drive muscled to the lead and threw down fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:26.4. Ticket To Seattle tracked cover in the middle stages of the mile before uncorking a :28.1 closing quarter which was good enough to earn her the half-length score over race favourite Crystal Gumdrop in 1:56.1. Taking home the show dough was Jilona.
Sent off at odds of 10-1, the daughter of Majestic Son-Travelin Supergirl now boasts a 4-2-1 record from 13 trips to the track this season for owners Landmark 9 Racing Stable, Hudson Standrdbrd Stb Inc and David Reid. The filly has earned more than $49,000 in her career.
Bustingattheseams used her closing skills to haul home the hardware in the final division for her Hall of Fame handlers, driver Steve Condren and trainer Bob McIntosh.
Whole Lot Of Sugar, Anikadabra and Kuil Deva took turns on the lead through panels of :28, :56.3 and 1:26.2, but it was the patience of Condren that helped land Bustingattheseams in victory lane. She kicked off cover late and fired home in :29.1 to win by 3-1/2 lengths over Late Shift. Third prize went to Kuil Deva.
Robert McIntosh Stables Inc of Windsor and Dave Boyle of Bowmanville, Ont. own the daughter of Kadabra-Tight Pants. The winning effort improved her 2017 record to 6-3-2 from 21 trips postward. She’s closing in on $60,000 in lifetime earnings.
