Handle Up At Leamington
Mother nature blessed Leamington Raceway with a spectacular day on Sunday (August 27) -- 22 degrees and a slight breeze off the lake -- which brought a large crowd to wager $39,743, all live. Leamington officials have reported that handle is up 30 percent this year.
The day started off with the Robert McIntosh stable grabbing the opening double with Test Ride and Bit Of Luck.
Don Rankin then cranked it up with back-to-back wins with his own trainees GD Cruise For Gold and Action Town.
Twelve-year-old Magnum Seelster found his way to the winner's circle for the third time this meet. Tyler Borth gave him the perfect two-hole trip to find room in the lane to score in 2:01.4.
Borth showed his talent as he took charge and steered Beach Terror to a Leamington season-best in fast fractions of :28.2 :57 and 1:26.2, fending off the late-closing Irvine James and Down On My Luck in a final time of 1:57.1.
The ninth race saw the large crowd rise to their feet to cheer 14-year-old Weskey home. The win was his sixth win of the year and impressive 57th lifetime.
The final race of the day saw century horsemen James Coke guide Hide The Cash to the narrowest of victories of the day over Honi Maker and Spago Hall.
