Rockin Finish Upsets In Preferred
Despite starting from the outside, suffering interference and being forced to rally from last – Rockin Finish stormed home in :28 to take home top prize in Monday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers at Grand River Raceway.
Rockin Finish was bothered by stablemate Musselsfrmbrussels following his break going into the first turn. Travis Henry got Rockin Finish settled away in good order, but the pair watched as Thoughtyoudlikeit rolled along up front through fractions of :27.2, :57.1 and 1:25.1. Paparazzi Hanover came first-over on the way to the half, and Rockin Finish quickly grabbed cover behind that foe.
The battle continued all the way to the three-quarter pole and then into the stretch. Thoughtyoudlikeit eventually put away Paparazzi Hanover, but he couldn’t fend off the hard-driving Rockin Finish. The Richard Moreau trainee stormed home to win by a half-length margin over Thoughtyoudlikeit in 1:53.4. Taking home third prize was Paparazzi Hanover.
Sent off at odds of 10-1, the eight-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover-Please Me Please improved his 2017 record to 4-0-1 from 15 trips to the track this season for the 40-time winner. Gerrie Tucker of Montreal, QC owns the career winner of $552,178.
Bank Shot Hanover went to the top and couldn’t be caught in the $7,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers. The four-year-old son of The Panderosa-Braggin Yankee stepped through splits of :27, :55 and 1:24.3 before coasting home in :30 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Lets Wait And See. Taking home third prize was race favourite Rise Up Now.
Keith Cassell, Dr. John Tobin and Limco Inc share ownership on the gelding who hangs his harness bag in the barn of trainer Victor Puddy. It was the fifth win of the campaign for the career winner of close to $134,000.
