Fireyourguns Victorious At Batavia
Fresh off three starts at Tioga Downs, Fireyourguns returned to Genesee County and picked up right where he left off last year by winning the $10,000 Open Handicap pace at Batavia Downs on Saturday, July 29.
Fireyourguns grabbed an early, gapped lead. Slowing the pace to hit the half in :57.1, Lucky King edged outside and started a challenge on the leader. Rounding the last turn, FIreyourguns held position while Lucky King kept pressing on the outside, but Fireyourguns maintained a half-length advantage at the line, winning over Lucky King in 1:53.2.
It was the third win in only eight outings this year for Fireyourguns, who paid $4.10 to win. He is owned by Jennifer Lowe, Robert Lowe and Terrence Mc Clory, who also trains the winner, and driven by Mike Caprio. He paid $4.10 to win.
In the co-featured $9,000 Open II Pace, Sir Ziggy Z Tam laid off the pace before coming first over at the half, eventually pulling away to a two-length victory in 1:54.2. His second win in a row and third in his last four starts, he was driven by Drew Monti for owner Tessa Roland and trainer JD Perrin. He paid $13.00 to win.
Racing resumes at Batavia Downs on Sunday, July 30 with a 1:15 p.m. post time. The card features three divisions of the New York Sires Stakes for three-year-old male pacers.
