Grand Slam For Campbell At Truro
Trainer/driver Marc Campbell took his show on the road to Truro Raceway in Nova Scotia on Tuesday evening, and by the end of the night he’d made four trips to victory lane on the stakes-filled card.
Buckaroo got the ball rolling for Campbell and his crew thanks to a 2:05.4 triumph in the first of three $6,240 divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old trotters. The son of Tad The Stud-Buckling Banbury posted the wire-to-wire triumph over Miss Emerson Ridge and Never Fear.
The 4-5 favourite is now 2-for-2 to start his career for owners Larry and Kathy Chappell of Marshfield, PE.
Pappy Go Go also used front-stepping tactics to give trainer/driver Marc Campbell his second victory on the night. The three-year-old son of Tad The Stud-Paging Willy captured one of the three $6,220 divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old trotters in a track record 1:59.4. Miss Neala Ridge was next best, with BJ Lorado taking home third prize.
Grayland Farm of Pugwash, NS owns the gelding who is 3-for-3 this year after going 6-for-11 during his rookie campaign. The trotter has banked $28,847 to date.
Scarlet Desire gave Campbell the training and driving hat trick thanks to her 2:00 decision in the first of the three $7,400 ‘A’ divisions of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for two-year-old pacing fillies. The daughter of Western Paradise-Best Of Philly led every step of the way and held on bravely to win by a nose over Maybeitsmaybelline. Elm Grove Misty was third.
Gordon MacLean of Winsloe, PE owns the maiden-breaker who was a runner-up in last week’s first lifetime start. The youngster has banked $5,713 to date.
Campbell also clicked with Nikes Cowgirl in her $1,400 elimination of the Wilson’s Home Heating Series for filly and mare pacers. She rallied from far back to post the 2:00 decision over Charlottes Western and Jamantha.
Other stakes winners included Wicked Nick, who was a wire-to-wire winner in his $6,220 division of the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old trotters. Trainer/driver Gary Chappell put him on the lead early and he never looked back en route to his 2:01.3 triumph over Hop Up and Glencove Carter.
Sent off as the 1-9 favourite, the son of Tad The Stud-Napanee Seelster won for the first time this season after going 7-for-12 last year. The career winner of $33,756 is owned by PEI partners Peter Buchanan and Cameron Trail.
Windmeredontuworry, a two-year-old son of Armbro Barrister-Ginternal Revenue, survived a first-over journey en route to posting a 2:04.2 decision in a $6,240 division of the ATSS for trainer/driver Terry ‘Rubber Ducky’ Gallant. The colt kicked fought hard to win by a neck over Oceanview Tadpole, with Daisy River rounding out the top three finishers.
Gallant shares ownership on the colt with Summerside, PE partner Eric Johnston. The maiden-breaking wins gives the colt a 1-1-0 record from his first two trips to the track.
Windemerepartyman took the final $6,620 division for the three-year-old trotters with the greatest of ease for driver Jack Panting. He rallied the colt to the eight-length triumph over Talk Of Windemere in 2:05.4. Revenueofwindemere was third.
The son of Nureyev-Windemere Spirit is now 2-for-4 this season after assembling a 3-for-13 record last year. Panting shares ownership on the career winner of $19,116 with trainer Ralph Annear of Montague, PE.
Ticked made a miscue shortly after the start in his $6,240 assignment for two-year-old trotters, but he regained his composure for driver Myles Heffernan, Sr. and rallied to win by eight lengths over Majian Gilroy in 2:05.2. Setting the speed and fading to finish third was
Gerald MacDougall trains the son of Armbro Barrister-Tymal Merona for Myles and Jackie Heffernan of Glace Bay, NS. The rookie is now 2-for-2 with earnings of $5,616.
Royaltywestho is also 2-for-2 to start her career thanks to Tuesday’s 1:59.3 decision over R Es Shabla. The show dough went to Woodmere Celidh.
Walter Cheverie worked out the winning trip for the Joe Baxter-trained daughter of Westwardho Hanover-Lady Kelleigh Anne. She’s stashed away more than $7,600 in her first season on the track.
Woodmere Chella sped to the lead and kept on trucking for trainer/driver Gilles Barrieau. The daughter of Articulator-Oh Pretty Leigh threw down panels of :30.4, 1:02.4 and 1:33 before rocketing home in :29.2 to win by 1-1/2 lengths over Zero Stress Nora. Elm Grove Maddy finished third.
Daniel Ross of Belfast, PE owns the rookie who owns a 1-0-1 record from 2 trips to the track this season. She’s closing in on $5,000 in lifetime earnings.
Tobins Terror took the lone $2,500 ‘B’ division for two-year-old pacing fillies when she marched to the top and never looked back en route to her 2:01.1 performance. She defeated Dustylanejazz by more than five lengths, with Windmerenoharmdone finishing third.
The daughter of Stonebridge Terror-Hot Fusion won for the first time in two starts for trainer/driver Gary Chappell. The pacing lass is owned by Boyd Macdonald Prodce Ltd and Daniel Ross of PE.
