Distinctiv Rusty Duels, Prevails At Truro
Distinctiv Rusty ($4.40) earned his third win of the season and his second in three tries at the top level at Truro Raceway, sustaining a first-over bid to wear down odds-on pacesetter Weather Hanover and outlast a late push from HP Bushido Dragjet by three-quarters of a length in Sunday afternoon’s (July 16) $1,575 pacing feature.
Ryan Ellis was patient early with the six-year-old Rambaran entire, stalking from third as Weather Hanover (Todd Trites) tore through a :27.4 first quarter mile before commencing a first-over ascent nearing race’s midpoint. Distinctiv Rusty advanced to duel with Weather Hanover through a :29.3 third quarter, and ultimately would stick a head in front on the far turn as HP Bushido Draget (Kenneth Parker, Jr.) was towed into contention from second-over.
Upon turning for home, Distinctiv Rusty worked to wear down Weather Hanover and also fend off the late charges from HP Bushido Dragjet and Badlandia (Darren Crowe)—second and third respectively—for a 1:57 triumph. Weather Hanover was a worn-down fourth, while Rusty Riley (Paul Langille) completed the quintet after lacking room from the pocket.
George Rennison trains Distinctiv Rusty—now a three-time winner in 12 starts this season—for owners Ryder and Andrea Rennison and Cathy Benedict.
