Summer Travel Sizzles In Debut
After cruising to an ultra-impressive 1:54.1 qualifying victory at Mohawk Racetrack on June 24, there was a lot of buzz leading up to the debut of Summer Travel on Tuesday evening at Mohawk Racetrack.
And the freakishly fast son of Western Ideal-Shark Tail certainly lived up to the hype when he demolished his rookie foes in a jaw-dropping clocking of 1:51.4 for driver Louis Philippe Roy and trainer Casie Coleman.
Roy got away fourth with Summer Travel while Webmaster Hanover and Courtly Choice battled to the quarter pole in :27.4. Courtly Choice worked to the top, but he quickly gave way to Summer Travel in the backstretch when that colt made his move to the top. Summer Travel slid through middle splits of :56.4 and 1:25.1 before roaring home in :26.3 to win by six lengths. Albergo Hanover was third-placed-second and Webmaster Hanover was fourth-placed-third in the $14,000 event.
Sent off as the 1-2 favourite, Summer Travel recovered $7,000 of his $35,000 price tag from last year’s Harrisburg Yearling Sale. He is owned by West Wins Stable, Mac Nichol and Calhoun Racing Ltd.
