Another Star From Solveig?
Broodmare Solveig never misses. She’s had seven foals of racing age including five stakes winners that have earned nearly $6 million combined, led by the great Shake It Cerry.
This Saturday’s Breakfast With The Babies at the Meadowlands began at 10 a.m. on a nice morning with little wind, some cloud cover and moderate temperatures. Jason Settlemoir called the action as two-year-old Swing It Cathy became a record performer as a 1:57.2 winner for Jimmy Takter. Bred and owned by Solveig Breeders, she is by Donato Hanover out of Solveig, making her a full-sister to Shake It Cerry and International winner Uncle Lasse. Fuel Her Flame (Yannick Gingras) and Beholder (DR Ackerman) followed her in.
Diamond Creek’s homebred Chapter Seven filly Repentance (Tim Tetrick) was a 1:57.4 winner today. Tetrick rated her mid-pack until fanning wide off cover into the stretch and she went by willingly for the win. Linda Toscano is the trainer. Basquiat (Takter) gave way grudgingly to be second and Michando (Marcus Miller) trotted up for third.
Chanel Me continued the parade of homebred winners for Takter. Jimmy sat patiently in the pocket behind Girl Talk's (Troy Beyer) rapid fractions then fed his filly racetrack for the easy 1:57.1 win. Marvin Katz, Al Libfeld and Sam Goldband retained the Cantab Hall daughter of their champion mare To Dream On to train. Girl Talk stayed for second and Meadowbranch Patsy (Ake Svanstedt) was third.
Final Dream won in 1:58.3 for Svanstedt, cutting the mile and widening late. Ake owns the Cantab Hall colt with Joe Sbrocco and Lars Berg. Helpisontheway (Tetrick) trotted home well for second and Lins Lil Justin was an even third.
Svanstedt came right back with Chapter Seven gelding On The Ropes to win in 1:56.2. He clipped along at an honest rate through the 1:27.1 three-quarters and had to be asked to maintain his margin over American Steele (M. Miller) to the wire. I Am Summer (Scott Zeron) came third.
After the break the homebred Art Major filly Blue Grotto (Tetrick) took a 1:54.4 mark for Brittany Farms. She came from just off the pace to rip by leader Someangelsomewhere (Zeron) through the :27.2 final quarter. Linda Toscano trains the winner.
Reign On Me (Brian Sears) was a handy 1:57 winner for owner Jennifer Dalton, stalking Red Snapper (Dave Miller) all the way then out hustling that one for the win. Nifty Norman trains the $22,000 Standardbred Horse Sale graduate for Ms. Dalton’s interests. Seen At Rio Deo was third.
Key Advisor was a 1:54.4 winner out of the pocket for Yannick Gingras. He drafted behind Alagna stablemate Odds On Lauderdale (Zeron), hooked that one mid-stretch and edged by that gritty rival right on the wire. Im A Big Deal (D. Miller) was a closing third in his first start. Brittany Farms and Key Advisor Racing own the winner.
QUALIFIERS
What The Hill looked sharp this morning for Dave Miller as he prepares for next week’s Stanley Dancer Memorial, cutting it out in 1:52.4 and easily handling Enterprise, who drafted along in second but could not menace the winner.
Caprice Hill (Sears) won in 1:54.1 after following the returning Pinkman through leisurely fractions, trotting home strong in :27.1. Emoticon Hanover (Dan Dube) was a closing third with both mares likely for next week’s Miss Versatility. Pinkman tired a bit to fourth in his first start since last fall.
