Distinctiv Rusty Circles Truro Pacers
Distinctiv Rusty ($21.30) circled a field of Truro Raceway's top pacers to win the Friday feature for driver Ryan Ellis and trainer George Rennison.
Allstar Man took charge off the gate and led the field through fractions of :29.3., 1:00.1 and 1:29.3 over the sloppy track in the $1,575 ninth race feature. Meanwhile, favourite Badlandia advanced first-up from fifth with trailer Distinctiv Rusty following the cover.
The pressure was mounting on Allstar Man as he raced past the three-quarter pole and Badlandia pulled ahead into the final turn, but Distinctiv Rusty rallied off cover and took over late in the mile to win by one and a half lengths in 1:58.4. Third prize went to Montreal Phil, who finished two and a half lengths behind off a pocket trip.
Distinctiv Rusty earned his second win of the year for owners Ryder Matthews Rennison and Andrea Rennison of Truro, and Cathy Benedict of Valley, N.S. Lifetime, the six-year-old son of Rambaran has won has won 16 races and $56,496 in purses.
