His Boy Elroy Rebounds At Truro
Dan MacRae’s His Boy Elroy ($3.10) avenged defeat in Sunday (June 18) afternoon’s featured $1,575 pacing event at Truro Raceway, seizing command and never looking back en route to a 1:57 triumph.
The five-year-old son of Jeremes Jet sprinted to the fore from between Brookdale Buster (Douglas Polley) and Badlandia (Darren Crowe), and controlled the pace through fractions of :28.2, :58.1, and 1:27.3. Up the backstretch on the second circuit, His Boy Elroy edged away from pocket rival Brookdale Buster, who ceded second to the first-over Goliath Reigns (Todd Trites) on approach to the final turn. Despite Goliath Reigns being able to sustain uncovered progress for nine-sixteenths of the mile, His Boy Elroy proved victorious while fully extended for the final eighth, keeping Goliath Reigns a length at bay. Distinctiv Rusty (Ryan Ellis) followed live, sustained cover to take third.
Trainer Bernard McCallum drove His Boy Elroy to his fourth seasonal victory in five starts, all at Truro. The feature was dubbed the Ross and Ernie Wood Memorial in honour of the longtime harness racing enthusiasts and loyal supporters of the Standardbred sport in Nova Scotia.
