Sheer Captures Baby To Boomer Final
Sheer led the way from start to finish to upset in the $16,500 Baby To Boomer final at Sudbury Downs
on Saturday night.
Trainer/driver Jay Polifroni sent Sheer, the 8-1 fourth choice, to the top from Post 3 and the four-year-old son of Sand Olls Dexter carved out fractions of :29, 1:00.2 and 1:31.2 en route to establishing a new mark of 2:00.2 with a two length margin of victory.
Doc Beatz Em All (Paul MacLan) journeyed first-over to pick up the silver medal and the odds-on favourite, Auditorial (Mario Rivest) followed for the bronze.
Owned by Andrew Smagac of Chelmsford, Ont., the three-time winner bumped his earnings to $22,015 this year and $27,035 lifetime.
In this week’s $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Pace, Round About Fame, the 3-1 second choice, sat fifth for most of the mile before unleashing a :28.3 final kicker to win by a half-length over favourite Jersey Dan (Mike MacNeill). Sjs Nitelife (Paul MacLean) rallied for third.
The four-year-old gelded son of Apaches Fame was driven to victory by Justin Turcotte for trainer Mike Lamoureux and owner Omer Belisle of Val Caron, Ont. His fifth win of the year in 19 starts bumped his earnings over the $50,000 mark. Round About Fame has won 11 times in his career with $194,301 earned.
