Longshot Rocks Dresden
After having been sent away as the longest shot on the board in Race 9, the Darell Vleeming-trained and Tyler Borth-driven Michelles Hattrick ($92.40) rocked the tote board Sunday (June 11) at Dresden Raceway, as the four-year-old Mach Three mare closed for a one-length victory in 2:01.2.
Michelles Hattrick had started from Post 8 and raced well back in fifth through the :28.4 opening quarter and :59 opening half. She was charted in sixth as three quarters came to life in 1:29.3.
After having been five and a half lengths back at the three quarters, Michelles Hattrick raced large for Borth. She proceeded to pass five of her rivals and nail the wire one length the best, much to the appreciation of those that took a flyer on the longshot shot on the board. Vleeming, of Dresden, Ont., also owns the mare.
Cantcountmeout (driven by Garrett Rooney) finished well for second and Nelly Rockette finished third after a two-hole trip.
The featured event on Dresden’s Sunday afternoon card was Race 7, a $4,500 conditioned pace, and it was won by GD Cruise For Gold ($12.80). Owned, trained and driven by Don Rankin Jr., the three-year-old Allthatgltrsisgold gelding started from Post 8 and was fourth by the three quarters pole. The bay closed well for Rankin and got up to post a three-quarters of one-length score in 2:00 at odds of 5-1. Sweet Queen Cole (Mark Williams) finished second and Fleetwould Mach (Lorne House) finished third.
