Ramblinglily Rolls To Narrow Score
Ramblinglily played a game of catch me if you can en route to the winner's circle in the Open Mares pace Thursday night at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Walter Cheverie drove the mare off the front end in the $2,250 contest securing the lead with a :28.1 first quarter after leaving from post 6. The Allan Jones trainee then utilized a middle-half breather through fractions of :59.3 and 1:29.4 before closing the mile out in 1:58.2 with Prettyndangerous (Adam Merner) just a head short in second and Shadows Mystery (Kenny Arsenault) completing the Triactor.
Jones co-owns Ramblinglily with fellow New Brunswick resident Normand Leger.
Freddie captured the $1,850 Open trot in 1:58.1 for trainer-driver Marc Campbell, who continues to top the Charlottetown leader's board with 42 victories after scoring a hat-trick Thursday. Freddie is owned by The Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston. Holy Molie Maggie (Gary Chappell) was second with Morosita Bi (Jason Hughes) finishing third.
Another piece of the Campbell driving triple was Eagle Jolt in the featured pace as the second Campbell trainee to win on the program. Wilbur and Marie MacDonald of Orwell own Eagle Jolt as the veteran made his 48th career trip to the winner's circle with a 1:57.2 victory. Elm Grove Kaboom (Earl Smith) laid down all the fractions but went off stride around the final turn and was taken to the safety lane. Elm Grove Kaboom still finished second but was placed sixth for leaving the course. Junebugs Baby (Myles Heffernan) was placed second in the featured event with Simon Said (Corey MacPherson) placed up to third.
