'Tartan' & 'Daley' Win Rideau Features
Runner-ups a week ago, Highland Tartan and Commissioner Daley stepped up their game to tackle Rideau Carleton Raceway's Winners Over Handicap co-features on Sunday night (June 4).
In fact, Highland Tartan ($3.50) turned in a career-best performance to win the $6,950 pacing division in 1:52 flat. Driver Darrell Coville sent the six-year-old Art Major gelding three-wide approaching the half to take the lead and drew off by four and three-quarter lengths. Last week's winner Solid Performance (Richard Simard) and Killer Thriller (Brett MacDonald) closed for second and third, respectively.
Highland Tartan notched his fifth win of the season from 19 starts for trainer Ed McHale and owners John MacMillan and 2099551 Ontario Inc.
In the $6,650 top trot, Commissioner Daley ($6.80) led wire-to-wire in 1:57.4 for trainer/driver Guy Gagnon, with Me The Boss (Darrell Coville) and defending class champion Alacrity (Ryan Campbell) chasing in second and third.
The six-year-old Conway Hall gelding, who is now three-for-10 on the year, is owned by Ecuries Guy Gagnon Inc., Gestion Louis Latulippe Inc. and Gestion Bruno Blouin Inc.
