UPDATED: Ontario Resident Mare Reminder

In order to clarify which mares are eligible to be enrolled in the 2009 Ontario Mare Residency Program, which could make their foals eligible for Ontario Bred Rewards, the ORC press release which was posted late last week has

been revised.

Remember to Enroll Your Mare as a 2009 Ontario Resident Mare

Mare owners of 2009 Ontario-born foals sired by either an Ontario sire or non-Ontario sire, are reminded that in order to be eligible for the new Ontario Bred Rewards Program, the mare enrolment form must be received at Standardbred Canada by September 1, 2009.

To qualify as an Ontario Resident Mare, a mare must be resident in the province of Ontario for 180 consecutive days surrounding date of foaling in Ontario. Offspring of Ontario Resident Mares will be eligible to be registered as Ontario Bred horses, and will then be eligible for incentives attached to their Ontario Bred status.

Ontario Bred Rewards consist of:
Rewards for Ontario Sired foals of 2009 out of an Ontario Resident Mare:

  • 15% of the horse’s total OSS earnings
  • 15% of the horse’s earnings in selected “Open” stakes races in Ontario.

Rewards for non Ontario sired foals of 2009 out of an Ontario Resident Mare:

  • 15% of the horse’s earnings in selected “Open” stakes races in Ontario

Program eligibility criteria and enrolment forms are available for viewing and downloading from the Standardbred Improvement Program page on the ORC website at: www.ontarioracingcommission.ca
