The close connection between hockey and horse racing in Canada continues to bind tighter as the years go on. On Sunday, May 28, a Standardbred Canada member that was born into the harness racing industry hoisted the Memorial Cup along with his Windsor Spitfire teammates.

Standardbred Canada member Austin McEneny – son of standout trainer Scott McEneny, who is prepping Streakavana for the 2017 Pepsi North America Cup – hoisted some hardware of his own on Sunday at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ont., as the Spitfires defeated the Erie Otters 4-3 to capture the 2017 Mastercard Memorial Cup.
Leading up to the Memorial Cup, Teri Pecoski penned a profile piece on McEneny which explains his back story and how the Waterdown, Ont. native found his way to the championship Spirtfire squad.
