Sophomore Fillies At Big M Saturday
The Meadowlands has 11 races carded for Saturday with a variety of overnight races making up the program.
The second race is an interesting blend of sophomore pacing fillies hailing from a variety of regional programs getting starts in before their respective state-bred stakes begin.
Trainer Tony Alagna has an interesting pair of Pennsylvania-eligible, lightly-raced, blue-blooded lasses that both fetched a big price at the yearling market.
Shes Watching (post 3) is a Rocknroll Hanover three-quarter sibling to Hes Watching who won the 2014 Meadowlands Pace in record time. She demanded a $200,000 nod by George Segal (as Brittany Farms) and Marvin Katz to end the bidding as a Harrisburg yearling. She's Watching made a pair of starts at two, hinting at great promise by winning both before succumbing to a fracture that effectively ended her campaign. Her return to the races last week was an imposing come-from-behind 1:53.2 score with driver Scott Zeron motionless as she clipped off a :26.2 final quarter.
Stablemate Tori Hanover is posted just to the outside of Shes Watching for driver Joe Bongiorno. The Somebeachsomewhere filly is from Trim Hanover, making the $135,000 Harrisburg purchase by Brittany Farms and Jeff Snyder a half-sister to Brittany's champion filly from a few seasons ago American Jewel. Tori Hanover won three of eight starts as a two-year-old, one of them a Grand Circuit tally in a Breeders Crown elimination before being put away.
Jayes A Lady is an Ohio-sired McArdle filly who split here time between state-bred and Grand Circuit tests as well. The Caviart Farms homebred took her 1:55.3 mark in an Ohio stakes at the Delaware County Fair last summer for trainer Nancy Johansson. Brett Miller is listed to drive.
Planet Rock represents the Empire State, earning more than $200,000 as a freshman while winning eight races for owner Ken Jacobs. She had a pair of Meadowlands qualifiers and raced well in an elimination for the Lismore from a no-chance spot at Yonkers last week. Tim Tetrick drives Planet Rock for Linda Toscano.
Just how much pork can you eat? The answer to that question could net you $500 if your consumption surpasses that of all other contestants in the 2nd Annual Pork Roll Eating Competition held on-track. Each contestant must sign a waiver before participating.
Post time is 7:15 p.m. Eastern.
