'Name That Foal' Contest Winner Selected
The Alberta Standardbred Horse Association (ASHA) and Meridian Farms have announced the 2017 Name That Foal contest winner.
The winning name for the contest foal, a filly sired by Mystician out of Hare Canada, is Rapidash, submitted by Brady M in the nine to 16-year-old division.
Brady explained that Rapidash is the perfect name for Hare Canada's foal as "she will have a rapid dash that can leave anyone in the dust during a race. With this name, you'll be able to get 1st or 2nd anything."
The name is inspired by Brady's favourite Pokemon character, one of the fastest in the game.
"Its play on words and it would be amazing hearing it from the overhead speakers. 'And Rapidash is doing a rapid dash for the finish line...And yes folks, she's done it again,' the announcer would say.
"I think it's a wonderful name for your foal and I know someday the foal will be number one," said Brady.
