Bob & Steve Sweep Whenuwishuponastar
The second leg of the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series went postward on Thursday evening at Mohawk Racetrack, with two-year-old pacing fillies going head-to-head
in a set of $20,000 divisions.
Bob McIntosh, who campaigned the series’ namesake, teamed up with Steve Condren to win the opening split with Give The Gift. The daughter of Camluck-Eternal Gift did most of the road work en route to posting a maiden-breaking score in 1:54.2. She pulled off a mild upset at odds of 4-1 over the odds-on favourite Cool Jazz. Another McIntosh pupil, Star Secrets, rounded out the top three.
Condren, McIntosh and C S X Stables shelled out $32,000 for the filly at last year’s Forest City Yearling Sale.
Condren and McIntosh took the second division with first-time starter You See L A, who used a powerful stretch rally to post a 1:54.4 score over the 1/5 favourite, Major Girl. Chocolate Truffle rounded out the top three.
The homebred daughter of The Panderosa, who is owned by Robert McIntosh Stables Inc., C S X Stables and Al McIntosh Holdings Inc., is the second foal of the multiple stakes-winner Los Angeles (1:53.4 – $289,213). Her first foal was the stakes-winning filly West Of L A (1:53.2 - $151,560).
The top money earners from the preliminary legs will have the change to advance to next Thursday’s $57,200 final of the Whenuwishuponastar Pacing Series.
