Wheres Waldo Wins In Tompkins-Geers
Wheres Waldo and Josh Marks captured the lone Tompkins-Geers division for three-year old colt pacers on Monday night at Tioga Downs
.
The duo rolled out of post position four to trip the teletimer in :26.4 before relinquishing the lead to favourite Hay Goodlooking. That colt paced through fractions of :55 and 1:23.1 with Mark and Wheres Waldo looming in the pocket anxiously. At the top of the stretch Marks tipped his charge to the outside and sprinted past the pacesetter to score in a new lifetime mark of 1:52.3.
The son of Bettors Delight-Mystical Trick is trained by Linda Toscano for owner Ken Jacobs of Baldwinsville, New York. It was the third win in seven seasonal starts for Wheres Waldo, who increased his 2009 earnings to more than $61,000.
“I though if we sat on his back (Hay Goodlooking) that we could pick him up down the stretch,” said Ken Jacobs in the winner’s circle following the victory.
Brandnewgirlfriend continued her six race win streak in the second division of the Tompkins-Geers for three-year old trotting fillies. Brian Mattison sent the daughter of Conway Hall-Tiffany Gold to the front from post position eight and never looked back scoring in 1:57.
Brandnewgirlfriend, who was unraced as a two-year old, has won eight of nine starts in her sophomore year for trainer Paul Kelley, and has seasonal earnings of more than $110,000.
“She will stay in New York state and go through the program, and we will just keep our fingers crossed,” said Paul Kelley on the future of his trotting filly.
Michelles Way and Jim Morrill, Jr. captured the other division for three-year old trotting fillies in 1:57.3.
