Lyonssomewhere Goes The Distance
Despite being handicapping with the outside post, Lyonssomewhere had little problem vanquishing the seven foes he faced in Monday’s $11,000 Horses & Geldings Preferred 2 at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
J Harris had Lyonssomewhere in hustle mode right from the outset, and the six-year-old son of Somebeachsomewhere-Miss Kitty Hanover rolled the field through panels of :27.3, :57.3 and 1:25.4 before using a :29.1 closing panel to win by 1-1/2 lengths over race favourite Border Control A in 1:55. Boomboom Ballykeel rallied from last to finish third.
Bruce Goit trains the pacer for Geoffrey Lyons Mound of Brantford, Ont. Sent off at odds of 9-2, Lyonssomewhere is now 4-for-6 this season and 14-for-40 in his career. He’s quickly closing in on $600,000 in lifetime earnings.
Jackstan turned a two-hole trip into a 9-1 upset one race earlier in the $7,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 for the tandem of driver Robert Shepherd and owner/trainer Fred Maguire of Ailsa Craig, Ont.
Race favourite B N Bad carved out sensible fractions of :30, 1:00.1 and 1:28.4, but he couldn’t fend off Jackstan’s bid in the closing strides. Jackstan kicked home in :28.4 to win by half a length over B N Bad in 1:58. Lovedancinwithyou took home the show dough after doing the first-over road work.
Jackstan, a 10-year-old son of Island Fantasy-Mytoyboxisfull, is now a three-time winner this season. The 25-time winner is on the verge of surpassing $150,000 in lifetime earnings.
