Topville Cheetah and Two Of Clubs used their come-from-behind skills to come away victorious in their respective Preferred 3 assignments during Sunday’s 10-race card at Flamboro Downs.
Heavily favoured Topville Cheetah and driver Louis Roy got away fourth before marching first-over and drawing away to an easy win in the $7,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3.
The Steve Labonte trainee kicked home in :30 to win by 3-3/4 lengths over Miss Machqueen, with Badlands Delight taking home the show dough in the six-mare affair.
Erin McCleary of Burlington, Ont. and Gabriel Moreau of Terrebonne, QC share ownership on the five-year-old daughter of Dali-Topville Celerity. The mare broke out of a recent slump to post her second win of the season and the 14th of her career. She’s banked more than $86,000 to date.
Two Of Clubs, fresh off a 1:56.3 victory against easier company, stepped up to the $7,500 Horses & Geldings Preferred 3 and came away with a narrow victory at long odds for the tandem of driver J Harris and trainer Gary Rivest.
The free-legged performer got away seventh, and remained seventh while racing parked past the half. He made an explosive rush in the middle of the track in the backstretch, and then kicked home in :29 to prevail by a head over Win One Soon in 1:56. Rounding out the Trifecta ticket was Mckinney.
Sent off at odds of 16-1, the six-year-old son of Armbro Deuce-Unaccountaball won for the fourth time this season for owner/trainer Gary Rivest of Waterdown, Ont. The 19-time winner bumped his overall cash stash to $95,328 with the win.
