Tioga’s Top Trot To Warrawee Preferred

A six-pack of speedy square gaiters kicked off the 2017 season at Tioga Downs, as they sparred in the $12,000 Open Trot.

Dragin The Wagon shot to the lead from Post 5 and produced panels of :27.1, :56.3 and 1:25.3 before being confronted by the pocket-sitting Warrawee Preferred. Jim Taggart Jr. found Warrawee Preferred room in the lane and the Gary Messenger pupil kicked home in :29.1 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Dragin The Wagon in 1:55. OHO Diamond rallied to take home the third prize.

Warrawee Preferred, who is owned by Scott Woogen of Mechanicsville, VA, is now a four-time winner this season and a 30-time winner in his career. The victory bumped his lifetime earnings to $165,966.
