Lincoln Parke Conquers Vernon Foes

Newcomer Lincoln Parke came, saw and conquered five formidable foes in Saturday night’s $9,000 featured sixth session at Vernon Downs

.

With Fern Paquet, Jr. doing the teaming for trainer Gary Campbell and owner Gestion R. Zane, Inc., Lincoln Parke ($8.00) idled in the pocket behind the pace-setting Daley Deposit Only through three-quarters in 1:26, and then rallied to nip the mile-cutter by a head in a 1:53.4 Open-1 handicap pacing performance, which enabled him to take home the Don Perkins Memorial Trophy.

Saturday’s strong showing resulted in the sixth season’s score and 37th lifetime win for the seven-year-old son of Astreos-Bunny Dearest, who has salted away more than $586,602 during his productive career.

Paquet produced his fifth driving double at the Downs this season after he piloted the pacer Arts Day to a 1:54.1 score for his wife, owner-trainer Jamie Paquet, in Saturday’s eighth event.

Chris Lems steered Yankee Arnie to a 1:52.3 victory in Saturday’s $7,000 seventh session, the week’s Open-2 contest, which equaled the six-year-old gelding’s win record, and earned him the Pohl’s Feedway Trophy.

Lems, who later won with the pacer Townie Guy, and Dude Goodblood (Davbro Bromac N & Man On Mars N) also posted two tallies during Saturday’s nine-race program.

Vernon’s next live program will take place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, the third of four Family Night offerings during July. Backstretch barn tours will begin from in front of the clubhouse entrance one hour earlier.
