Victory For Veteran In London Preferred
Ryan Holliday put the pedal to the metal on Spartan Victory in Tuesday’s $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters at The Raceway at Western Fair District, and the classy campaigner kept on trucking en route to posting the 40th win of his career.
Spartan Victory sprung off the wings of the starting gate and sailed through fractions of :28.2, :59.2 and 1:28.3 before using a final quarter clocked in :30 to post the win by 4-1/2 lengths over Muscle Ave in 1:58.3. Federal Army, who came first over on the eventual winner, had to settle for third prize.
Kris Di Cenzo trains the 10-year-old son of Hard Rock N Roll-Kandys Kelsey, who was sent off as the even-money favourite, for owner Brad Pittock of London, Ont. The gelding, who is now 2-for-12 this season, has stashed away earnings in excess of $280,000.
