Sandbetweenurtoes Wins Again
Favourite Sandbetweenurtoes ($3) wore down the pacesetting Bernadette to earn her second straight win in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Friday night (April 21) at Mohawk Racetrack.
Driven by Doug McNair, 1-2 bettors' choice Sandbetweenurtoes got away fourth as a trio of early leavers battled three-wide into the first turn. Widest of all, Bernadette forged on for Louis-Philippe Roy and claimed the top spot by the quarter pole in :27.
As Bernadette passed the half in :54.4, Sandbetweenurtoes launched her attack and went head-to-head with the leader nearing the 1:22.3 third quarter mark. The top two distaffers continued to duke it out down the lane, with Sandbetweenurtoes eventually passing Bernadette for the one-length victory in 1:51.2. Request For Parole and Ed Hensley closed from the back of the pack to finish third.
Richard Moreau trains Sandbetweenurtoes, who has won five times this year with four other top-three finishes -- all against Preferred competition on the WEG Circuit -- for local owner Brad Grant. The six-year-old Somebeachsomewhere-Als Girl mare has earned a six-figure bankroll already this season from 11 starts.
