Open To Dont Rush; Record Set In Series
A $22,000 Open Trot and a pair of $12,500 second round divisions of the Dr. Dan Farwick Memorial Series for condition trotters highlighted the Tuesday (April 11) matinee at Miami Valley Raceway.
Former Ontario Sires Stakes star Dont Rush (Mike Oosting) waited diligently from mid-pack as four lead changes transpired during the first half-mile of the weekly trot feature, then pounced in the late stages to score a 1:54.1 triumph, his win fourth of the year but first in five weeks. I Know My Chip (Walter Haynes Jr.) also closed from far back to secure the runner-up spot, losing by just a neck, while Walter White (Dan Noble) held on for third.
Penn (Jason Brewer) was the first to make the top, leading the classy field to the quarter in :27.1. Rockn Stien (Peter Wrenn) was first to come calling, clearing to the front in the homestretch the first time around the five-eighths mile oval. Fashion Chocolate (Josh Sutton) was next to assume command well before the :55.4 half was reached. Walter White (Dan Noble) applied pressure immediately thereafter and cleared to the front just past the midway station. As the field swung off the final turn, eight of the nine horses were bunched three-wide from front to back with less than four lengths separating them. Halfway down the lane, it was Dont Rush forging to the front and I Know My Chip finding a late seam to make the outcome interesting.
The five-year-old winning son of Infinitif is trained by Bill Dailey and owned by the partnership of Richard Lombardo, Carl Atley and the JJ&M Stable.
Another Breath (Jason Brewer) established a new track record for four-year-old male trotters winning the quickest Farwick division in 1:54.1 over favoured Lets Go Bucks (Dan Noble) and The Land Shark (Mike Oosting). The four-year-old Lous Legacy gelding was making just his second start for new owner Richard Mishkin and trainer Jeff Johnson Jr. The quick clocking shaved over two seconds off Another Breath’s previous best. The victory was his seventh lifetime and increased his career bounty to $132,688.
The other split was captured by Primed N Powerful (Dale Hiteman), who downed Ultimate Shopper (Chris Page) and Mickeys House (Greg Grismore) in 1:54.4. The Psychic Spirit-sired four-year-old is trained by Douglas Graham for owners Ronald Phillips and Sharry Boledovich.
Milfords Z Tam, Deep Question and E R Bella also qualified for the $27,500 series championship, which will go postward next Tuesday, April 18.
The Lucky Pick-5 wager went unsolved for the third consecutive day, creating a carryover of $3,986.76, and prompting Miami Valley to guarantee a $10,000 total pool, in conjunction with the USTA Strategic Wagering platform, when the pentafecta bet is offered next on races 10 through 14 on Friday night (April 14).
