Reel Upsets At Western Fair
Claimed for $20,000 from his latest effort at Woodbine Racetrack, Reel tried his luck on London’s half-miler on Monday evening and came away victorious in that track’s $11,000 Preferred 2 Handicap for horse and gelding pacers.
Sent off at odds of 12-1 in the seven-horse affair, Reel got away third for driver Scott Coulter before muscling his way to the top shortly past the mid-way point of the mile. Good Friday Three put up the :27.4 opener before passing the baton to Reel at the half, and once Reel cleared it was game over for the others.
Reel rolled the group to the three-quarter marker in 1:25.1 before using a :29.4 closing kick to win by 1-3/4 lengths over Arrived Late in 1:55. Taking home the show dough was Goldstar Badlands.
Trainer Tim Myers co-owns the six-year-old son of Shadow Play-Desir with Michael Hale of Livonia, MI. The gelding is now 3-for-9 this season and 14-for-88 in his career. He’s quickly closing in on $100,000 in lifetime earnings.
