Driven by Trevor Henry, Waasmula prevailed off a perfect pocket trip in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace on Saturday night (April 1) at Woodbine Racetrack.

Waasmula secured the pocket trip after leaving from post five with Deuces For Charity (Louis-Philippe Roy) also firing to her outside and clearing to command through a :26-second opening quarter. While Dueces For Charity continued to lead the way to the half in :54, 3-2 favourite Bernadette (Doug McNair) was flushed first-over from mid-pack, but despite her advances, Waasmula was able to slide out of the pocket at the 1:22.2 third quarter mark and went by the leader down the stretch to score in 1:51.2.

There was a five-across finish for second-place honours almost two lengths behind the winner, with 32-1 longshot Request For Parole (Ed Hensley) closing from the backfield to edge out Exhilarated (Jonathan Drury). Following back-to-back wins in the Mares Preferred, Bernadette finished fourth this time out, ahead of P L Hurricane (Randy Waples) and Deuces For Charity.

Sent postward at odds of 6-1, Waasmula paid $14.20 to win.

The millionaire daughter of Million Dollar Cam and Waasmowin notched the third win of her nine-year-old campaign and 32nd lifetime for trainer Bruce Goit and owner Brent Vincent of Allenford, Ont.

Alexas Jackpot also converted off a pocket trip to win a $27,000 top-level conditioned pace in a season's best 1:50.4 for driver Louis-Philippe Roy, holding off Nickle Bag (Trevor Henry) by a neck with longshot leader Paparazzi Hanover (Travis Cullen) finishing just a half-length behind after setting fractions of :26.1, :53.4 and 1:21.4.

Also sired by Million Dollar Cam, the seven-year-old gelding reached the $500,000 earnings mark in scoring his 20th career win for trainer Marty Fine and co-owner Highland Thoroughbred Farm of Inglewood, Ont.

He paid $10.30 to win as the 4-1 third choice.
