Harrah’s First Qualifying Session
After having gone undefeated in two races last year as a juvenile, Warrawee Sunshine, a Somebeachsomewhere filly out of the mare that produced Warrawee Needy p,4,1:46.4 ($1,255,384), recorded the first charted mile of her 2017 campaign on Tuesday (March 28) during a qualifying session at Harrah’s Philadelphia.
With pilot Andrew McCarthy aboard for trainer Chris Ryder, Warrawee Sunshine left from Post 5, was first at every call and went on to win by six lengths in 1:56. The fractions were cut in :28.4, :58.4 and 1:27.1 and she capped things off with a :28.4 final quarter.
Warrawee Sunshine’s only two starts came last fall in the conditioned ranks at Pocono and Harrah’s Philadelphia.
The fastest win time of Tuesday’s 12-race qualifying session was recorded by six-year-old Badlands Hanover horse Ghost Pine, who stopped the clock in 1:54.3 for trainer Ron Coyne Jr. and Andrew McCarthy.
