Hennessy Wins Half Of Century’s Card
Mike Hennessy was the driver to back during the Sunday, March 26 card of racing at Century Downs, as the pilot made trips to the winner’s circle after half of the races on the program.
Hennessy’s first win came in Race 3, as he revved up the 4-1 second choice, Western Fortune, from the backfield and paced off to a three-length win in 1:59. The Darryl Cutting-trained Camystic six-year-old paid $10.80 to win.
Hennessy came right back in Race 4 with the Harold Haining-trained Little Bit Faster, who went gate to wire from Post 2 and stopped the clock in 1:57.2. Sent off as the second choice, Little Bit Faster, a son of Northern Dynasty, won by more than six lengths and paid $5.80 to win.
Blue Star Maverick was much the best for Hennessy in Race 6, as the Rod Hennessy-trained son of As Promised was victorious in wire-to-wire fashion in 1:56.1. Racing as the odds-on choice, Blue Star Maverick ($3.80) coasted to a three and three-quarter-length victory, which gave Hennessy his third win of the program.
His last win of the day came in the final race of the program, and Hennessy rewarded his backers in the tilt. Racing at odds of 7-1, Hennessy and JK Royal Flush bay Royal Renegade pounced from third and drew off in a sharp effort. Hennessy, who was driven for trainer Rod Hennessy, won by just under five lengths and rewarded his backers with a $17.70 win mutuel.
