Gaudet To Dieppe Hall Of Fame

Former horseman Guy Gaudet of Dieppe, N.B. will be honoured for his accomplishments on the New Brunswick harness racing scene when he is inducted into the local Sports Hall of Fame at a noon brunch on Sunday, November 8

.

Born in Saint Joseph, N.B. in 1932, Gaudet moved to Dieppe in 1945 and began a career in harness racing shortly after as a driver, trainer and blacksmith. Gaudet was a leading driver and trainer at Brunswick Downs in the late 1960s and 70s. He recorded his first win in Charlottetown in 1955 and his last in Truro in 1991. The winner of 720 races earned a grand total of $244,418 over the course of his driving career.

The colourful reinsman, who competed in the Atlantic Sires Stakes, also campaigned Alec B Smart and Wick Gauman to Horse of the Year honours in 1975 and 1976. Gaudet also holds the 1988 championship award for ice racing in Gagetown.

The 1960 Maritime juvenile baseball champion Dieppe Red Sox and figure skater Donald LeBlanc will also be inducted.
