Star Photo Prevails At Western Fair
Star Photo held off the pocket-pulling Tortola Sunrise to prevail in the featured $8,300 Preferred 3 Trot on Tuesday night (March 14) at The Raceway at the Western Fair District.
Driven by Alfie Carroll for trainer Victor Puddy, Star Photo led the field of nine through fractions of :29.4, 1:00.2 and 1:30 en route to the 2:00.2 victory over the 'good' track. Tortola Sunrise came up just a neck short for Anthony MacDonald while Muscle Ave and Scott Young dove inside off cover to edge past Kennel Buddy for third, finishing two and three-quarters lengths behind.
Star Photo paid $3.80 to win as the 4-5 favourite.
Owned by Keith Cassell of Smiths Falls, Ont. and Limco Inc. of Chateauguay, Que., the chestnut son of Classic Photo was claimed for $25,000 at Woodbine Racetrack at the end of the February and has put together back-to-back wins for his new connections.
Star Photo earned his first Western Fair win on Tuesday having only one other start (a fourth-place finish) over the London oval back in 2013.
The eight-year-old trotter, who started his career in Ontario but has competed stateside in recent years, now boasts 32 wins lifetime and earnings approaching $300,000.
