Dr. Reid Offers Candid Words
Dr. David Reid is leaving Horse Racing Alberta - but not the sport. "I'm going to devote a lot more of my energy to some
of the things I have neglected - my breeding operation and horses," he said today.
As reported yesterday, Dr. Reid is retiring as CEO of HRA on July 15. "I love the industry. I believe in the industry," he commented. "It's an important part of rural Alberta. Some of my most pleasurable moments have been at the racetrack." While Dr. Reid admits he might have to slightly downsize his racing operation, he currently has seven broodmares, four yearlings, four two-year-olds and eight competitive thoroughbreds.
With a farm near Ardrossan, Dr. Reid believes the racing industry has a future in Alberta. "Every partner (needs to realize) these are tough times and pull together," he stated. "The industry has an outstanding leader in Shirley McClellan (HRA chair)."
On his departure from HRA after several years guiding the ship, Dr. Reid stated: "The industry wants a new look and I recognize it."
