Speedy Desperado In Sudbury Feature

Speedy Desperado rallied off second-over cover to capture the featured $11,000 Not Listed Preferred Trot on Wednesday evening at Sudbury Downs

With David Dowling in the driver’s seat, the nine-year-old Wesgate Crown gelding got away fourth from a Post 3 start while Donald Rankin (Paul MacLean) set up shop on the front end. After :30.1 opening quarter, Suzys Solitaire (Allan Hohner) moved to the outside and battled with the pacesetter through middle splits of 1:01.1 and 1:31.1 while Speedy Desperado picked up his cover. Using a :29.4 final frame, Speedy Desperado sprinted past his rivals in the stretch to win by a quarter-length in 2:01.1.

Despite enduring broken equipment, Donald Rankin finished second while Suzys Solitaire rounded out the top three.

Trained by Phillippe Belanger for Margaret Wilcox of Midland, Ont., Speedy Desperado scored his fourth win of the season in 10 starts lifting his earnings to $21,830. The winner of 14 races has banked $113,362 in his career.
