Misterizi Gets Off The Schneid
Getting reacquainted with the winner’s circle has proved to be a daunting task for former World Record holder Misterizi, who trekked to Innisfil, Ontario on Tuesday night with an 0-for-6 record to start the 2009 campaign
.
That startling stat didn’t deter the Georgian Downs faithful from sending Misterizi off as the odds-on favourite, and delivered on that pari-mutuel promise – albeit by a slim margin.
With Rick Zeron at the reins, the Anthony Montini-trained six-year-old son of Mr Lavec-Ramerizi tucked into the four hole while Titan Park laid down early panels of :28 and :58. Zeron had his charge on the move shortly past the mid-way point, but Misterizi was still three lengths away from Titan Park as that rival sprinted to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2.
Misterizi kept digging and driving from first-over, and he used 28-second closing speed to post a 1:55 clocking over Reve D Amerik, who finished three-quarters of a length in arrears at the checkered flag. Brawn Seelster used his off-the-pace skills to track down the show dough in the eight-horse affair.
Albina Montini, Easy Racing and Paul Giammichele share ownership on Misterizi, who won for the 13th time in his career. The $7,500 payday bumped this year’s earnings to $49,862, while his lifetime total surpassed $442,000.
