Perfect Night For Team To The Moon
As the temperatures begin to warm up in Ontario, so too does Team To The Moon -- all in support of breast cancer awareness.
"Tonight I'm very proud of our team," said Director Lou Sorella. "They are all such troopers and fighters and I wouldn't expect any less from this awesome group of horse people."
On Wednesday (March 1), Team To The Moon kicked off the program at The Raceway at Western Fair District with a win by team member Casimir Preist (Chris Johnston) in race one for trainer Taylor Spitzig and followed that up with a victory by Poetic Dream (Alfie Carroll) in race seven for trainer Mary Paulic.
"Our whole team is absolutely ecstatic about going two-for-two Wednesday in London," added Sorella. "It's been a slow start for us in 2017, but we expect more horses and trainers to come aboard now that the weather is beginning to improve. We'll be summer racing in Ontario in no time!"
In the evening's featured $10,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Handicap Pace, driver Travis Henry sent 6-5 favourite Ride Away Shark three-wide at the third quarter mark to overtake the leading Pinky Tuscadero (Mike Horner) for the one and a quarter length victory in 2:00.1 over the 'good' track. Insincerity (Paul MacKenzie) rallied home from the backfield to show.
Scott McNiven trains Ride Away Shark, a five-year-old Classic Card Shark-Freedom Away mare owned by Kimberley McNiven of Putnam, Ont., and Thomas Brodhurst of London, Ont. With a three-for-six record on the year, she has banked $17,800 for her connections.
