Upset Winners In Robert Stewart Stakes
The Big Scoop and Major Girl were both upset winners in Monday’s pair of $95,200 Robert Stewart Stakes divisions for two-year-old fillies at Mohawk Racetrack
.
In the opening contest, The Big Scoop sat inside for much of the mile before popping out late in the stretch and overhauling race favourite Rockn Highland in 1:56.1. It was another length back to St Lads Trixie who finished third.
The Big Scoop, a $7,000 yearling purchase who is a sister to a pair of $500,000-winning siblings, was making her first career start for trainer Randy Hill and owner Darryl Hill of Ohsweken, Ontario. The daughter of Grinfromeartoear-Open Book returned $25.20 for the win.
Major Girl used a strong off-the-pace rally to capture the second division for driver Rick Zeron in 1:54.3. The daughter of Art Major-Teenager Girls collared Western Dancing right at the finish with Tiz To Dream landing the show spot.
The filly, who is a half sister to $1-million winner Lady Dillinger, was making her second career start for her owner-trainer Gaetan Hebert. She returned a whopping $43.30 for the win.
