Brooklets Typhoon Lowers Sprint Record
Brooklets Typhoon took part in his first sprint race on Saturday night at Hiawatha Horse Park and the seven-year-old Person Power gelding lowered the World Record
for a five-eighths mile dash to 1:08.4.
With Brad Forward at the lines, Brooklets Typhoon battled with Fleetwood Albert (Don Rankin, Jr) to the first quarter in :26.4. He then secured the lead en route to the :54 half and pulled away by over 11 lengths to win the $5,000 dash for claimers ahead of Laag The Mile (Mark Pezzarello). Brendons Camotion (Alex Lilley) finished third.
The former record was held by Dragons Blood and Pegasus Osborne, who won their “Go The Distance” dashes in 1:09.1 at Dover Downs in February this year.
Chris Haskell trains the winner of four races in 22 starts this year for owners Mario Dangelo of Amherstburg and Cassie Nantais of Windsor, Ont. The 23-time winner now sports a bankroll of $120,905.
The win was one of four on the card for Forward, who also scored a grand slam earlier at Woodstock Raceway.
