Eleanor Gillock Passes

Eleanor Gillock, matriarch of a longtime Meadows racing family, passed away on Sunday, February 12 at the age of 87.

A resident of Belle Vernon, she was often in attendance at the Meadows watching her sons' horses race.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Michael J. Gillock, along with 10 brother and sisters.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda (Bill) Sutton of Washington, Barbara (George) Popelas of Houston and Debra Hawker of Smithfield; and two sons, Michael and Richard (Linda) Gillock of Belle Vernon. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Both Michael and Richard are longtime Meadows-based trainers, and Richard currently serves as the president of the Meadows Standardbred Owners Association.

Friends will be received from 3-9 p.m. Tuesday (February 14) in the James C. Stump Funeral Home, 580 Circle Drive, Belle Vernon. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 15 with Pastor Joe DiDonato officiating.
