Woggy Rocks Upsets In Preferred
Woggy Rocks rallied home off cover to collar the popular race leader, Champagne Phil, and post a 13-1 upset for driver Scott Young in the featured $11,000 Preferred 2 & 3 Handicap Pace on Sunday night (February 12) at Flamboro Downs.
Champagne Phil and Bob McClure led the field of eight through fractions of :27, :56.3 and 1:26 amidst wet flurries while Woggy Rocks and Young tracked the cover of eventual third-place finisher P L Jackson, driven by Travis Cullen. Young sent Woggy Rocks three-wide in the final turn and hauled down the 1-5 favourite in deep stretch for the 1:55.3 victory over the 'good' track.
Woggy Rocks returned $29 for a $2 Win ticket.
Trained by Jonah Moase and owned by Mikaela Lustic of Fort St John, B.C., the Rocknroll Hanover-Soggy Woggy gelding earned his second win in 2017 to go along with his two runner-up finishes from six outings.
Lifetime, the six-year-old pacer has won 17 times while earning almost $150,000 in purses.
