NCRHHA/Rideau 'Night Of Champions' Details

Published: August 21, 2009 02:21 pm EDT

On Sunday, August 23, the National Capital Region Harness Horse Association, in association with Rideau Carleton Raceway, proudly presents its second annual

Night of Champions.

The night will feature numerous memorial races honouring some of the Ottawa Valley's racing pioneers. In addition, there will be three 'Future Stars' races and two 'Champions Invitation' races. New to the night this year will be a reunion race, featuring Dr. Roly Armitage, Don Armitage, Gordon McDonald, Hector Clouthier, Garth Workman and Andre St. Amour.

The main event on the card is the Coville Cup Drivers Challenge, named in honour of the track's reigning hero and winningest driver of all time, Darrell Coville. Nine drivers from Ontario, Quebec and the United States will compete in a one-day, five-race driving tournament. Most driver tournaments feature the most experienced and most notorious drivers. However, the Coville Cup introduces less experienced drivers many of whom only recently obtained their driver's licenses. The aim of the tournament is to showcase young drivers to Rideau Carleton's racing fans and give new drivers the chance to compete against drivers of similar experience and ability on the big stage.

All proceeds from the evening will support the Shepherds of Good Hope. The Night of Champions will be an exciting event for the whole family.

All races will take place at Rideau Carleton Raceway beginning at 5:45 p.m. For further information on the event, contact the NCRHHA office at 613-822-6819.
