Off of a 14-day rest, Freddie is again poised to take on the top trotters Thursday evening (August 13) at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park, as Gold Cup and Saucer Week racing begins.

Thursday's 10-dash program will feature a special 7:00 p.m. post time. The special post time will be in effect for all of the CDP's evening cards during 2020 Gold Cup and Saucer Week.

On Thursday, the $2,400 Open Trot will line up for Race 5 and will feature a field of six. Freddie has been installed as the morning line choice for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Three Wisemen Stable of Kingston.

Freddie, a 64-time winner in his career, has had a solid campaign thus far in 2020, as he has notched four wins and a second-place effort from six starts. His only off the board finish came in his latest race (on July 30) when he got away last and had to settle for fourth, three lengths in arrears to the victor, Windmeredontuworry.

Windmeredontuworry will start from Post 6 on Thursday and will have Gilles Barrieau back at the controls for the Glenn MacKay Jr. stable of Summerside. Hop Up was victorious in the Island Ocean Trot Classic series this past Sunday in Summerside and has retained the services of driver Corey MacPherson. Glider Man, who is sure to be near the front of the action from Post 1, will host Kenny Arsenault in the race bike.

Maritime champion Daisy River (to be driven by Jason Hughes) will start from Post 4, while Majian Tango (Jim Ripley) will look to bounce back from a break in stride in his latest from Post 5.

'Post Time Picks,' a new segment designed to give guests a look at top contenders, is going with Freddie for top spot. “Freddie had a tough trip last time out and missed the top three and that doesn’t happen often. Freddie is back inside tonight we think he’ll return to his winning ways.”

Lean On Who will make her her Island debut in the $1,600 Race 10 finale and MacPherson will be in the bike behind the six-year-old daughter of Western Ideal. The mare last raced at Vernon Downs in upstate New York with John MacDonald driving, and has now moved into the PEI stable of his brother, Joe MacDonald.
