Heffernan Maintains Atlantic Dream Stable Lead

Samantha Heffernan maintains her lead in the inaugural Atlantic Dream Stable competition, presented by the Prince Edward Island Standardbred Breeders Association.

The first edition of the event saw 82 entrants pay a $20 entry fee, with 100 per cent of proceeds going to the IWK Health Centre in Halifax, N.S. The total for the fundraiser was bolstered by a generous donation from Jamie Palmer of Saint John, N.B., in memory of his father, Ingham Palmer, the 'Dean of Maritime Announcers.' Palmer's donation put the fundraiser at $2,000 going to the worthy charity.

Heffernan's selection of 12 Atlantic-eligible horses currently hold the most earnings in the competition with her position bolstered by Woodmere Stealdeal's victory in Atlantic Sires Stakes action Saturday afternoon (July 25) at Northside Downs. That victory put her 2020 Atlantic stakes earnings at $116,610. Second place is occupied by Brian MacPhee and Kathy Furness is in close pursuit in third.

The stable with the most earnings at the end of stakes season will garner the top prize of $1,000, provided by sponsors JD Marine and Diving, Woodmere Standardbreds, MCA Consultants and Newport Consulting.

The PEI Standardbred Breeders Association wants to thank all entrants and wish them good luck on the Atlantic stakes trail.
