Longtime horseman Wayne Merner of Truro, Nova Scotia passed away on Friday, March 25 at the age of 51
.
Merner was a familiar face in East Coast harness racing circles as well as Ontario, working as a blacksmith in addition to training and driving. In his driving career, Merner steered home 942 winners and banked $369,333 in purses.
Pre-deceased by father Patrick, brother Dennis and sister Annie, survived by his mother Anne, siblings Ed, Beth (Darryl), Garry (Lucy), Larry (Brenda), Sheila, Sharon (Greg) and sons Adam and Wayne. Services have taken place.
