‘Clam Bake’ Looks To Heat Up ‘Big M’

Another dozen pari-mutuel puzzlers are in store for the horseplayer a day early, as the Meadowlands Racetrack will offer live racing on Thursday and Friday this week. The schedule is a result of a New York Jets football game on Saturday night at Met Life stadium.

With east coast racing down to just a few tracks, every field is full to the brim – a condition that will continue to benefit the Meadowlands and its faithful followers for the foreseeable future.

There are seven trots on the Thursday card, and the featured sixth race will feature 10 horses on the starting gate in a quest for the winner's share of $13,000. A case could be made for any of the contestants. Crosbys Clam Bake has been installed as the tepid 3-1 choice on the morning line, despite his extreme outside draw.

Trainer Andy Federico handles Meadows-based conditioner Randy Bendis’ stock when they come east, and will be reunited with Crosbys Clam Bake. The pair enjoyed great success at the Meadowlands last winter, as they won all the way up to the top class, then won two Open trots in February. Crosbys Clam Bake is wrapping up a stellar campaign with $123,945 in purses earned this year on the strength of nine wins from 36 seasonal starts. His 1:53.1 mark was taken over the Meadowlands in late October. Bendis shares ownership of the solid son of Kadabra with Jack Piatt III and Tom Pollack. Jimmy Marohn, Jr. will have the assignment on Thursday.

Off the track, the ‘Own A Horse’ promotion is still accepting prospective participants, sign up online or at the Players Club desk.

New Years Eve reservations in Pink are still available for live racing and dining; then stay for the stunning fireworks display after the races to welcome 2017 in style.

The usual Pick 4 pool guarantees will not be available on the Thursday cards, but will return on Friday.

Post time for the Thursday card will be 7:15 p.m.
