Wilbert Weatherall Passes

Trot Insider has learned that Standardbred racehorse owner and horseman Wilbert ‘Will’ Russell Weatherall, 87, of Flesherton, Ont., passed away at the South Bruce Grey Health Centre in Durham on Monday (November 6).

Beloved partner of Suzanne Sloan. Dear father of Cindie McGowan (deceased), Sandra Glover (Dorn Stoddart), Wayne Weatherall (deceased) Susan Weatherall (Alvin Hamilton), Peggy Holden (Denver), and Lenny Weatherall (Cheryl).

Also survived by son-in-law Allan McGowan, daughter-in-law Martha Goudy, 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Brother of Jean Vail (Lorne deceased), Bessie (Mike) Binns (both deceased), Mabel Bowen (Bill deceased), Winnie Bowins (Lloyd deceased) Al Weatherall (Alberta), Stan (Dorothy) Weatherall (both deceased), Merle (Doug) Brooks (both deceased), Norval (Dolsie) Weatherall (both deceased), Dalton (Fern) Weatherall (both deceased), Lorne (Joyce) Weatherall (both deceased) and sister-in-law Rose Weatherall (deceased).

Wilbert, who owned horses since the age of nine, was the subject of a profile piece by the Owen Sound Sun Times in the spring of 2012. "He's a blacksmith, he jogs them, he's very involved," said his daughter, Sandra Glover. "He's got his own track at home."

The family will receive friends at the May Funeral Home, Markdale on Thursday from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held at Annesley United Church, 82 Toronto St. South, Markdale on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. Chaplain Ken Carter will be officiating. Interment in Markdale Cemetery.
